Peter Scott travels to Tatarstan – a republic renowned for its hospitality Peter is invited to a traditional tea party. The table is laden with local delicacies: – famous triangular pastries filled with potato and meat called echpochmaks, as well as gubadiya, a pie made from red cottage cheese and rice. And of course, there’s chak-chak. This treat was once considered a symbol of wealth due to its golden colour and shape, which make it resemble a pile of coins. The honey in it represents a sweet life. That’s why no wedding in Tatarstan is complete without chak-chak. Tatar traditions also continue to thrive in a modern way.
