Hero of Russia, Major Alan Datiev, was born in Vladikavkaz and began his journey to the skies in a model aircraft club. After completing flight school, he was assigned to the 4th Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Flight Personnel in Lipetsk. The skills he acquired during years of training exercises proved invaluable when he joined the Special Military Operation. In one engagement, the fighter pilot destroyed three aerial targets simultaneously. During another, he came under attack from a missile system and, sustaining injuries to his hands, legs, and head, ejected over enemy territory.
