Miraculously, he escaped the town himself, trekking 15 kilometers through fields on foot, hiding from drones. The invasion began at dawn on August 6, 2024, as nationalist battalions and foreign mercenaries crossed the border. Hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee their homes, but not everyone made it out of Sudzha — more than two thousand were taken captive. In response, Russian forces launched a counter-offensive. Recruitment centers saw a surge of volunteers, and even veterans wounded in previous conflicts joined self-defense and volunteer units. “This is our home. We have nowhere else to retreat,” they say.

This series follows Kirill and Vladimir, two young factory workers who have long dreamt of being taken on in the prestigious tank shop. They are both lucky enough to be offered work placements there, although only one permanent place is up for grabs. Kirill is a novice and is relying on beginner’s luck to see him through. Vladimir, on the other hand, has been at the factory for three years and is hoping that his experience will count in his favour. A promotion would be especially important for him as his wife is expecting their first baby, and a move to the tank shop would mean they could afford to buy their own home. Rooting for Kirill is his girlfriend Alena and Lera, her daughter from a previous relationship. But who will win through in the end? While Kirill and Vladimir’s careers are just taking off, it may be the end of the line for one veteran tank, which arrives at the factory with the name ‘Vasya’ painted on its turret. This T-72 battle tank is sent to Uralvagonzavod to be repaired, together with a message from its regiment pleading for the only tank in their regiment which has been in combat to be given a new lease of life. However, it remains to be seen whether the damage to ‘Vasya’ can really be repaired…

All Russian men are required to do a year of army service and the paratroopers are the best of the best. He's based in Tula; it's just a few hours' drive from Moscow, but a completely different world. What's it like getting ordered around and sleeping in a room with dozens of bunk beds? Is there any truth to the Russian expression that something "stinks like a barracks?" What is the daily routine of new soldiers? Who are his new comrades and what kinds of backgrounds are they from? What does it take to maintain an AK-74 assault rifle? Marching practice is a must; "Private Brown" spends hours drilling and trying to get it right. He participates in live fire exercises and finds out he's a good shot, but in addition to firing an assault rifle, he must be able to use a grenade launcher. The troops have to practice for two weeks before their first parachute jump. This includes an underwater training session; Private Brown puts on scuba gear and is taught the basics of underwater fighting. James is sent to the top of a forty-metre tower and told to jump off; will he be able to overcome his fear of heights and take the plunge? Finally, the day arrives when the troops take the pledge of allegiance and join the paratroopers.
